
The Round Rock Express, the Triple-A affiliate of the Texas Rangers, fell to the Gwinnett Stripers in extra innings, 5-3.
The Stripers got on the board early in the first inning with a home run by shortstop Jim Jarvis. They followed this with another home run by designated hitter Aaron Schunk to give the Stripers the early 2-0 lead.
The Express took the lead in the bottom of the seventh inning. Center fielder Michael Helman reached base with a single and then stole second base. Left fielder Alejandro Osuna hit a single to move Helman to third base. Hauver knocked in Helman with a single to give Round Rock the 3-2 lead.
Gwinnett fought back in the top of the ninth inning to tie the game at three. Center fielder Jose Azocar doubled and then advanced to third base after a force out at first base. Catcher Chadwick Tromp knocked in Azocar with an RBI single and force the game into extra innings.
The Stripers broke the tie in the top of the tenth. Second baseman Luke Waddell started on second base to start extra innings and Jarvis was hit by a pitch. Pitcher Emiliano Teodo had two wild pitches to allow Waddell to score to give Gwinnett the 4-3 lead. Pitcher Alexis Diaz came in relief and suffered a wild pitch to extend the Gwinnett lead to 5-3.
