Angelo State Rams Win Extra-Innings Thriller Against St. Edward’s Hilltoppers, Capture Series Split

The Angelo State Rams Baseball team won its game against St. Edwards on Easter Sunday, winning the thriller 3-2 to salvage a series split.

Angelo State opened the scoring in the third inning when Tate Greene drove in Chase Pendley with an RBI groundout after Pendley led off the frame with a double.

St. Edward’s answered in the bottom half with a sacrifice fly to even the score.

The Rams regained the lead in the fifth. With runners on second and third, Greene delivered again with his second RBI groundout of the game to make it 2-1.

Rams starter Luke Spencer turned in a standout performance on the mound. He delivered the longest start by a Rams pitcher this season. The senior right hander went 8.1 innings, allowing two runs on four hits and two walks while striking out seven.

The Hilltoppers forced extra innings in the ninth. With runners on first and third, they executed a double steal. The Rams recorded the out at second but could not prevent the run from scoring at home.

The Rams responded in the top of the 10th. Greene reached third on an infield single and an errant pickoff attempt before Austin Beck laid down a bunt back to the pitcher, bringing home the go-ahead run.

Garrett Baumann closed the door, pitching the final 1 2/3 innings while allowing one hit and striking out three to earn the win.
