Abilene Sharply Curtails Street Projects After Allocated Bond Funds Run Dry

The City of Abilene has sharply reduced its street and road maintenance budget from $9 million to just $3 million at a recent meeting of the city’s Street Maintenance Advisory Board meeting.

The reduction was discussed as board members reviewed available funding and considered road projects for 2027.

City officials said some street maintenance funds are being used to complete existing projects, including work on Maple Street.

According to city staff, bond funds allocated for the project were exhausted before all planned work could be completed.

Street maintenance funds are also being used for projects on Griffith Road and Ambler Avenue.
