State of Disaster Declared in San Angelo, Tom Green County Over New World Screw Worm Case
The City of San Angelo and Tom Green County have declared a local state of disaster after confirming a case of the New World screwworm.
The New World Screw Worm was found in a bovine animal in northern Tom Green County.
The case was confirmed on June 12 on a property between Grape Creek and Carlsbad.
It has prompted a coordinated response involving local, state, and federal agencies.
According to local officials, an infested zone is now being established around the detection site and will be added to the Texas Animal Health Commission’s interactive map once it’s officially in place.
Though a state of disaster has been declared, there is currently no crisis in the area.
