Solar Car Challenge Coming to San Angelo July 22
San Angelo students will have the opportunity to view solar powered cars during the Solar Car Challenge on July 22.
The Solar Car Challenge is a national high school solar car driving event.
The event will be held in the Home Depot Parking Lot from 4 to 9 p.m.
Teams of high school students will travel 631.7 miles, with stops planned in Palestine, Round Rock, Fredericksburg, San Angelo and Fort Stockton.
During the race, students will showcase their cars in each stop city, allowing members of the public to examine the vehicles.
Teams will also stop for photos at historic Texas courthouses along the route.
Before the race begins, the cars will go through “scrutineering,” a three-day inspection process at Texas Motor Speedway from July 16-18.
Each car must pass a series of roadworthiness tests before teams are cleared to compete.
